Waste Your Time!

“So why the hell did you call your blog ‘Black Old Chewing Gum’?”

Hi friend!

I hear you! It‘s a good question!

I was listening to a song from an Irish band called The Devlins the other day. Apart from the fact that it‘s another great song from a far too underrated band, I just couldn‘t resist to grab that “old piece of black chewing gum“ from their lyrics. Sorry, Colin!
So now you want to hear the song? Listen!

How about you?

Does your life sometimes feel motionless, gooey and crusty? Does it feel like driving on a dirty express highway at the same time? However, I guess you‘ve already figured it out! That‘s it, the piece of black old chewing gum!

The good news: Your life is NOT supposed to be like that. Take it into your own hands! Wake up! Don‘t sit back! Try and learn new things. Every single day. Go natural. Cook your own food. Move your body. Learn to play guitar. To sing. To paint. To write. A language. Learn a new software. Yoga. Climbing mountains. Help others. Join me and start your own lifestyle experiment!

Well, wait a sec!

So you say, you don‘t have any time for changes? I don‘t have it either! Take it! It‘s your life! Design it actively! Don‘t let others design it for you.

My Own Challenge

In my non-blogger life I‘m a designer. I‘m designing objects, graphics, architecture, short films. And I‘m crazy about it! If I could, I would design everything surrounding me. I like to design my clothes, my furniture, my skincare, my meals. So why not going even further trying to design – or re-design – my whole lifestyle? That‘s what this blog is supposed to be about.

Do I know, what I‘m talking about? I‘m not sure. Life is not easy. There are loads of obstacles in the way! Always. That‘s how life is. My life-description might sound cozy to you, but I‘m working very hard every day. It‘s a challenge! And it never ceases ti exist. On the other hand, going ahead on your own road and trying to realize goal after goal is fun too!

Now you might be thinking I‘m kind of mad to open a blog! Isn‘t blogging a waste of time?

Well, how can I know if I don‘t even try? At the moment I‘m extremely enthusiastic about it! I‘m enthusiastic about sharing information with you. I can‘t wait to hear your voices and there are millions of themes I‘m bursting to share! Wish me luck!

The Real Point

I am not trying to discourage you. I am actually trying to do the opposite. I want you to succeed and to be happy. I really do. What I don’t want you doing is getting distracted!

Are your current activities distracting you from something that you are more suited to? Is your appearance or bad skin distracting you from something that you are extremely good at? Are other people‘s expectancies distracting you from finding your real goals? Be honest to yourself!

I know, it‘s easier said than done, but try to spend your precious time doing something that you are naturally good at! Try to ban as much poisonous material – including yourself! – from your life as you can. You have the key to your life. Nobody else holds it. Use your natural abilities and talents instead and put them to good use!

The Cost

The opportunities are endless. And confusing. And, in the end, you might even find out that your life as it is is the best thing for you. But what you always need to remember is that you can’t get distracted from your goals. If you find a better way to live, to eat, to exercise or to make money that is still fun, enjoyable and ethical, you need to check it out as well.

Everything that you do has a cost and that is why it is so important to figure out whether your current lifestyle is a waste of your time or not. For example, if you decide to go shopping on Sunday, you are foregoing something else. A secret talent? Surfing at the beach? A weekend with your friends? Family time? Exercise? Sleep? Your job? Is it worth it? Where are your priorities?

Experiments

Call your attempts to change your life “experiments”! That means there is less perceived risk in it for you to fail. You can always go back to your “old life”, if the experiment doesn’t work out for you. Changes don’t necessarily have to be permanent. “Lifestyle experiments” are flexible. Just be alive! Find yourself!

So what are you waiting for? Get up and glow!

So what are your thoughts? Are there any goals you could make progress on if you simply put more effort into them? I would be really interested to hear whether any of you would consider doing something else in their lives if your current attempts didn’t work out soon. Please leave a comment.
